Hydrating Injections
As the skin ages and due to environmental factors and/or genetic predispositions, the thickness of the dermis reduces, due to a depletion in collagen and Hyaluronic acid, resulting in lesser elasticity and hydration. The skin can then appear like crepe paper, dull and lifeless. Topical moisturisers can assist in improving surface (epidermal) hydration and make the skin feel softer and more supple but will not penetrate deep enough to make a significant changes down to the dermis where elasticity and hydration are most vital.
Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring substance in the dermis, can be injected into the dermis via tiny injections, resulting in a plumper more pliable skin which has a nicer sheen. Hyaluronic Acid’s water binding properties, assists in drawing moisture to the dermis not dissimilar to water crystals added to garden potting mix.
It is safe and does not cause allergic reactions as it is not animal sourced. Side effects are short lived and limited to the trauma caused by the tin needles during the procedure i.e. redness, tenderness, swelling and sometimes bruising, all resolving between hours up to a few days but can be covered with make-up.
The discomfort is minimal as a local anaesthetic is “built-in” with the hydrating gel. Results are gradual and cumulative. A few sessions may be needed to achieve optimal results and results can be maintained with a top up session every 6-9 months.
