Dermal fillers
What are Dermal Filler Injections?
Dermal filler injections refer to injections filling in lines and folds caused by ageing, and replenishing general facial volume loss. There are many different types of dermal filler injections. At Skinstitute, we have chosen only the most popular dermal fillers recognised worldwide.
Hyaluronic Acid is the most popular substance used as dermal filler. It is a naturally occurring sugar present in the skin, the eyes and the joints. It is clear, soft and water binding, increasing the skin’s hydration. It also has an available antidote, hyaluronidase, making it the safest and most convenient as it can be dissolved within a matter of minutes.
Dermal filler injection treatment options include:
- Smoothing out of wrinkles and folds such as frown lines, naso-labial folds, marionette lines, smile lines, lip lines etc
- Lip enhancement to give your lips a fuller, more defined, and more sensuous form
- Facial contouring, such as filling out nasal bumps, defining jaw lines, enhancing cheekbones, or replacing lost volume in the mid-face region
- Increase of chin projection. Squaring off a man’s chin
- Hiding bags/dark circles under the eyes
- Filling temples that are caving in.
- Hand rejuvenation
- Neck and jawline rejuvenation
- Increasing Hydration and sheen to previously lifeless, dull, sun damaged skin
All fillers today contain a built-in local anaesthetic for maximum comfort. In some cases, a separate nerve block, anaesthetic cream or ice pack may be used for additional comfort. We only use leading brand dermal fillers with a proven safety profile. Our range of dermal fillers is variable in their duration of action – being from 6 months to a few years.
Once the dermal filler is injected, it becomes incorporated into your own tissues to create a support structure for your overlying skin. The product also stimulates the body’s own production of collagen and elastin fibres, and thus the initial result is further enhanced over the following months.
Results are always natural looking. No pillow faces. No Trout Pout.
Only a fresher version of you.
Questions and Answers
How long does it take?
Gaining the look you desire is as easy as it is quick. And the results are instantaneous. No pre-testing is needed and a session often takes less than 30 minutes. If it is your first treatment, we would advise a free initial consultation with the nurse so you may make a fully informed decision as to what treatment might best suit. You can then elect to have the procedure on the day, or go home to think about the options offered and book the procedure at a further date.
Does it hurt?
For lip treatments, you will receive a local anaesthetic that will effectively block any pain. For other areas, the built-in local anaesthetic present in the filler will numb the area as it is being treated. All of our patients are pleasantly surprised at the ease of the treatment and the effective pain management. Any numbness should wear off within the hour. Only some tenderness similar to a bruise will be felt for the first couple of days.
How is it done?
During the treatment, the crystal clear gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very thin needle. The gel is integrated within adjacent tissues and gives natural volume and smoothes the wrinkles.
Are there any side effects?
After treatment, some common injection–related reactions may occur, such as swelling / redness / pain / itching / discoloration and tenderness at the injection site. These typically resolve spontaneously within 1 – 2 days after injection into the skin and within a week after injection into the lips.
At Skinstitute, most clients report minimal symptoms / signs after 48 hours and paracetamol is sufficient for any post–treatment discomfort. Most people having a lip treatment have it arranged for just before a day off work but others are happy to go straight back to work or get on the next flight! Only rarely (in approx 1 in 2000), does more significant swelling / redness / and tenderness occur lasting up to 2 weeks. In case there is bruising, make up can be applied.
Can it be used during pregnancy/breastfeeding?
This has not been tested for and it is therefore our policy at Skinstitute not to perform treatments during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Can the products be used for patients who have undergone laser treatment or chemical peels?
Yes, but it is recommended to wait until the treated area is totally healed and the skin has normalised (normally 4 to 6 weeks ).
